NBA
Team Up Day
On
Wednesday, October 29, 1998 Rasheed Wallace visited the youth at
the Blazers Boys and Girls Club. Along with J.R. Rider, Gary
Trent and Blazers General Manager Bob Whitsitt, Wallace helped out
with Halloween decorations and showed the kids some fall spirit
on a day where basketball was not a top priority. For Rasheed
and his teammates to go into the local clubs and organizations means
so much to the kids, which is why he continues to do it. Rasheed
will always put the extra effort into the community where he lives.
"It's hard not to remember what it was like growing up, so I always
want to give back what I can," Wallace commented.
In
addition to the Boys and Girls Club, Wallace will also spend some
time with the elderly at the Urban League's Senior Center.
Wallace and his fellow players will play bingo with the group, among
other activities.
Each
of Rasheed's Blazer teammates are also participating in some aspect
of NBA TeamUp Day, a league-wide effort to support local community
projects. Kenny Anderson and coach Mike Dunleavy are to carve
pumpkins with youngsters at Doernbecher Children's Hospital, Arvydas
Sabonis will read a book in Spanish to Hispanic students at a Beaverton
elementary school, and Jermaine O'Neal will visit students at the
Police Activities League youth center.
