RASHEED A. WALLACE FOUNDATION LENDS
HELPING HAND TO GIRLS' BASKETBALL LEAGUE
Generous
Contribution Allows Summer Tournament to Continue For Its 28th Year
PHILADELPHIA,
PA (May 24, 2001)-As part of its commitment to financially support
athletic programs in Philadelphia, The Rasheed A. Wallace Foundation
is donating $5,000 to the Developmental Basketball League (DBL)
for their seven week summer league. This year's middle school league
runs from June to August and consists of six teams (15 players each)
of girls in grades five through eight. The teams play against each
other on Mondays beginning June 11th.
"I chose to sponsor the DBL this year because it is desperately
needed in my community [Philly]," says Rasheed Wallace. "Not
to mention the guys have so many leagues available to them, I wanted
to do something different." The league kicks off Saturday,
June 9th at the Community College of Philadelphia with the check
presentation from Jackie Wallace, Rasheed's mom.
The Rasheed A. Wallace Foundation was established in 1997 to promote
social and cultural programs that enhance the quality of life for
all people, and assist in the recreational and educational development
of youth in Philadelphia, PA, Portland, OR, Durham, NC, and other
selected communities.
The Developmental Basketball League provides year round support
services for female athletes ages 10-18 in the Philadelphia area.
Basketball skills clinics, SAT and financial aid workshops, tutoring
and travel opportunities are among the many services the nonprofit
organization offers.
